New York, NY (September 18, 2016)As the U.S. approaches its most consequential presidential election in generations, a powerful, newly updated film reveals just what is at stake for the country and the world. THE HUNTING OF THE PRESIDENT REDUX, a “riveting and revealing” documentary (David Sterritt, Christian Science Monitor), will be available across HD digital platforms and DVD from Virgil Films on October 4, 2016.

There can be no doubt that we live in one of the most tumultuous political climates in the nation’s history, a climate where politicians can be toppled on a whim, election results disputed in the country’s highest courts, and governors unceremoniously recalled. It’s enough to leave even the most cynical voter asking, how did this happen?

Harry Thomason and Nickolas Perry’s incendiary documentary THE HUNTING OF THE PRESIDENT REDUX, based on the best-selling book The Hunting of the President by journalists Gene Lyons and Joe Conason, offers a glimpse at the genesis of these partisan vendettas and explores the myths and truths behind the more than 25-year campaign to systematically destroy the political legacy of Bill and Hillary Clinton. The film was originally released in 2004, but anti-Clinton forces managed to get it largely suppressed. But now it is back – with more eye-opening revelations – and available for more people to see than was previously possible.

The film, now including new interviews and insights, explains clearly and convincingly how and why right-wing zealots have tried to destroy the Clintons – initially during Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign and his two terms in office, and now as Hillary Clinton aims to make history by becoming America’s first female president.

Prominent figures in politics and journalism who appear in the film, which is narrated by Morgan Freeman, include James Carville, Paul Begala, Jonathan Alter and Richard Ben-Veniste; also interviewed are many of those who have sought to discredit the Clintons. Gene Lyons says, “The honor of journalism has been compromised to the point where people just assume you’re lying if they don’t want to hear it” – and THE HUNTING OF THE PRESIDENT REDUX shows how we got to this dangerous state of affairs. Another interviewee chillingly says, “The current mood in America is reminiscent of 1932 Germany.”

Reviewing the original film, Variety’s Dennis Harvey called it “an eye-opening look at how disreputable characters can impact government – and how easily the mainstream media can be manipulated.” Michael O’Sullivan of The Washington Post called it a “fascinating documentary on what Hillary Rodham Clinton once called the ‘vast right-wing conspiracy’ … a frighteningly coherent argument that Clinton was railroaded.” Pete Vonder Haar of Film Threat described the film as a “chilling look at the lengths to which some with go to destroy someone.” The Austin Chronicle’s Cathy Ross called it “a stunning documentary … a case study in the power of special interests to manipulate scandal-hungry journalists and thus mold public opinion.”
