New York, NY (October 10, 2012) Call it a fitting tribute. The amazing rise to worldwide success of fashion designer Ozwald Boateng is recounted in the decade-in-the-making A MAN’S STORY. The documentary that fashion fans have been waiting for comes to VOD platforms and DVD on November 6, 2012, from Virgil Films.

To the shortlist of great fashion documentaries such as Valentino: The Last Emperor and The September Issue can now be added A MAN’S STORY. British designer Ozwald Boateng, the son of Ghanaian immigrants, fought to the reach the top of the menswear industry in London. He had his own Savile Row shop at the age of 28, became creative director of Givenchy, and now reigns as preferred designer to Hollywood A-listers and royalty alike.

A MAN’S STORY is a unique cinematic achievement. It’s 1998 and filmmaker Varon Bonicos begins recording the day-to-day work of Boateng, who remains dynamic and passionate about his clothes even as faces bankruptcy and divorce. Bonicos’ camera would continue to roll for the next 12 years, through the bad times and the days of triumphant renewal. What emerges is a groundbreaking film that takes us on an exhilarating behind-the-scenes ride into the world of high fashion with one of the most influential menswear designers of his generation.

Ending in 2010 when Boateng closes London Fashion Week with the biggest menswear show in history, Bonicos’ film is able to get behind the headlines and chart Boateng’s singular dream to succeed. A MAN’S STORY goes to the very heart of what Boateng has spent an entire career trying to distill: “what it is to be a man.”

A MAN’S STORY includes tributes from Giorgio Armani, Prince Charles, Richard Branson, Will Smith and Keanu Reeves, among many other boldface names.

Said the Daily Express’ Allan Hunter: “Ozwald Boateng may be the coolest designer in the fashion industry and A MAN’S STORY offers an absorbing account of the sheer hard work and determination that have made him a master of color, tailoring and fabric.”

Bonus features on the DVD include A Man’s Story: Unpicked, a 30-minute documentary charting the creation and execution of a fashion show.
